Now there's a co-incidence - I downloaded the Kindle version of Stories of Your Life and Others only yesterday. I haven't started it yet though, I'm just finishing Against a Dark Background - an Iain M Banks novel I suddenly realised I hadn't read.

Jeez, Deb - you can't be an Amurrican in a Forester. It's gotta be an F150 at the least. How do you haul the 8x4 plywood/dirt bikes/snowmobiles in a Subaru, fer Chrissakes? All that time in Canadia has had an effect, I can tell.

I like the new decor. Our #1 son has just spent two weeks in Vietnam, and is in Cambodia until next weekend. We've taken the opportunity to paint his bedroom and two others, which sounds straightforward but has involved an archeological dig in his room to get it to the stage where we can clean and prep it. Two more rooms to go, a sitting area and a bathroom. I hate painting...

Fellow INTPs present! I think online forums make it easier for introverts to interact with others on their own terms, without being overwhelmed. And of course one's online persona is always wittier, taller and better-looking than the meatspace "you".

I'm about halfway through 'Anna Karenina', which I'm enjoying in a pick-it-up-and-put-it-down kind of way. And I'm most of the way through John Brunner's 'Shockwave Rider', which is a remarkably prescient book given it came out in 1975.

Just curious - why is the best explanation for the dimming that something is blocking the star's light? Couldn't the reduction in brightness be the result of the star emitting less light (for reasons yet unknown)?

Nope! I've done some more digging and it looks like avatars are in fact uploaded via the "cover photo" screen. There's a button there by my username that I hope will do the trick.

On my iPad at least, I don't see anything picture-related in Edit Profile. Oh well.
